Drum Lessons
I offer drum lessons for both beginners and more advanced players. I base my lessons on a few different books (such as Komppisaurus, Rokkaavat Rummut, The Language of Drumming, and New Breed), and in addition to that, we learn songs and topics that align with the student's personal musical tastes.
With all of my students, we go through basic techniques, coordination, ergonomics, and sight-reading. My teaching goal is to get students playing music and songs as soon as possible, while taking their individual preferences into account. I provide solid tools for practicing drumming, both by ear and with sheet music.
For more advanced students, we can cover topics such as linear grooves and fills, double bass techniques (full-foot technique, slide technique, ankle technique, and heel-toe basics), odd time signatures, and dynamics in drumming. However, in everything, the student's own interests, goals, and musical preferences come first.
I also have a recording setup in my studio, so if student wish, we can monitor progress with recordings or even create drum cover videos for the student's use.
Choose the pricing option below that suits you, and I look forward to seeing you in lessons!

Testimonials
Here is some feedback I've gotten from my students.
Timo, 59
Since I didn't get drums as a child despite pleading for them, I bought them for myself in my middle age. I tried to learn the basics through various online courses, but the problem with that is the lack of feedback and the rigid course structure. Applying anything from those online videos also didn't work. Feeling a bit ready to give up, I came across Roope's ad, gathered my courage, and called him. That's when things started to click. During the introductory visit, in addition to getting to know each other, we discussed my starting level (very low) and what I expected from my drumming, as well as how often I would attend lessons at his practice space. Now, I've been a student of Roope's for about a year, and at least from my perspective, I've made quite a bit of progress. My technique has improved significantly, and playing the drums is starting to sound like actual drumming, not just vague noise. What I value most in Roope's teaching style is his strong expertise, flexibility, and his individualized attention to the student's needs. I definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to start playing drums or improve as a drummer!
Miska, 16
I had 1.5 years of drumming experience when I decided to try a lesson with Roope. I went to the lesson thinking I'd just work on my playing technique, as I thought I already knew a lot about drumming. However, after just the first lesson, Roope made me realize that I still had a lot to learn about drumming. I've been taking lessons for a few months now, and I've learned more than I did in an entire year of self-study.
My passion is playing metal, and Roope is really good at teaching that. Especially with double bass drumming, I wanted to improve, and I've made huge progress in lessons. With Roope's help, my double bass technique has gone from struggling to a steady and confident rhythm.
You can definitely tell that Roope's professional musician credentials are not for nothing. Whether you're a beginner or a more experienced drummer, Roope will identify weak points in your playing, and you'll definitely see progress where it's needed. Roope sets clear goals and makes learning easy and fun.
Although Roope is an excellent teacher, he's also really friendly and social as a person. I highly recommend everyone to at least check him out—you won't be disappointed!
